Riyadh: Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO), has called for the adoption of educational plans that incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. He emphasized AI's role as a transformative platform that enhances quality of life, boosts job opportunities, and strengthens governance, thereby advancing societies towards creativity and sustainable development.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. AlMalik made these remarks at the International Conference on Data and AI Capacity Building (ICAN 2026) in Riyadh. The event was organized by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in collaboration with King Saud University and the Human Capability Development Program (HCDP). It brought together experts and specialists from over 50 local and international organizations to explore the future of education and work in the AI era.
Dr. AlMalik also underscored the significance of the Riyadh Charter of Artificial Intelligence for the Islamic World. This charter, launched by ICESCO in partnership with SDAIA, serves as an ethical and strategic framework for the responsible development and application of AI. It aims to leverage AI for the benefit of humanity and sustainable development, with a focus on capacity building to bridge development gaps.
The ICESCO Director-General urged the education ministries of Member States to integrate AI technologies into their curricula, incorporating the ethical principles outlined in the Riyadh Charter.
