Manama: Mohammed Khalid Al Hazza, Acting Advocate General and Head of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), welcomed a delegation from the Secretariat of the Sub-Committee on Accreditation of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) during their official visit to Bahrain. Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), was also present at the meeting.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Hazza emphasized the SIU's dedication to enhancing cooperation with international and regional human rights organizations. This collaboration aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise, elevate institutional performance, and support national initiatives to promote and protect human rights in alignment with international standards.
Al Hazza elaborated on the SIU's role in safeguarding human rights within Bahrain's criminal justice framework and its proactive measures to investigate allegations, ensuring legal accountability and adherence to the rule of law. He also acknowledged the NIHR's significant contribution as a national partner in bolstering the human rights system, highlighting the robust coordination and cooperation between the SIU and NIHR, particularly under the memorandum of understanding established in 2015.
Discussions during the meeting also explored future collaboration opportunities and strategies to enhance institutional capacity-building in the realm of human rights.
