Speaker Receives Azerbaijani Counterpart in Bahrain

Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, welcomed Professor Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and her accompanying delegation as they participated in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly meeting hosted by Bahrain.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting emphasized the robust and expanding relations between Bahrain and Azerbaijan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan. The significance of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in fostering regional parliamentary cooperation, coordinating international positions, and progressing critical developmental agendas was acknowledged.

The representatives from both nations reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening relations and parliamentary collaboration. They noted the favorable outcomes from recent interactions, which included visits by Bahrain's Secretariat General delegation to Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani delegation to Bahrain. These interactions focused on technical programs, digital transformation, green parliament initiatives, and the application of AI in parliamentary work.

A memorandum of understanding was signed during the meeting to further enhance parliamentary cooperation. This agreement aims to expand connections between committees, friendship groups, and joint parliamentary working groups, as well as to promote the exchange of legislative expertise and information. The memorandum also seeks to leverage parliamentary diplomacy on shared interests.
