Manama: Abdulla Mohamed Alahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), engaged in discussions with senior officials at the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to enhance joint research cooperation.
According to Bahrain News Agency, these discussions are part of a broader framework established by the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 7 November 2021. This initiative aligns with the priorities of the Sakhir Declaration from the 46th GCC Supreme Council held in Bahrain. The declaration highlighted the crucial role of think tanks in anticipating future developments, informing public policy, and supporting sustainable development.
During his visit, Alahmed met with Dr. Abdulaziz bin Hamad Al Owaishek, GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs, Political Affairs, and Negotiations. They discussed the vital contribution of research institutions in advancing shared knowledge and expertise, following the direction endorsed by the Bahrain Summit. The meeting also reviewed Derasat's role, backed by the Memorandum of Understanding with the Secretariat, including the centre's ongoing studies, research outputs, and events.
Additionally, Alahmed met with Consultant Sultan bin Nasser Al Suwaidi, GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs at the General Secretariat. Their discussions focused on enhancing joint research efforts and developing knowledge initiatives that align with the priorities of GCC member states.
This strengthened institutional cooperation underscores Derasat's prominence as one of the leading research centres in the Gulf region, particularly in its engagement with the GCC General Secretariat.
