Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Sign MoU on Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Cooperation

Manama: On the sidelines of the fourth meeting of the Bahraini-Saudi Coordination Council, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to enhance cooperation in nuclear safety and radiation protection. The agreement involves the Supreme Council for Environment of Bahrain and the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission of Saudi Arabia.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the MoU was signed by Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Dainah, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs of Bahrain, and His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission. Dr. Bin Dainah emphasized that the MoU reflects the longstanding ties between the two kingdoms and aims to bolster cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear technology and related activities.

Dr. Bin Dainah stated that the agreement is a significant step towards unifying Gulf efforts in nuclear safety and radiation protection. It is intended to enhance readiness and response to nuclear and radiation emergencies in the region while promoting the exchange of technical knowledge and international best practices in nuclear and radiation regulation.

Moreover, Dr. Bin Dainah noted that this cooperation aligns with the strategic objectives of both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, supporting the safe and responsible use of peaceful nuclear technologies as a potential future clean energy source.
