UNAMI Concludes Mission in Iraq After Over Two Decades

Baghdad: The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) is set to end its mandate on December 31, marking the conclusion of over twenty years of service in the country. Mohammed Al Hassan, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, delivered his final briefing to members, during which he presented the latest report on the mission’s work.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Hassan emphasized that while UNAMI’s departure signifies the end of its direct involvement, it does not mark the dissolution of the Iraq-UN partnership. Instead, it ushers in a new phase characterized by Iraq’s leadership in determining its future trajectory. The UN remains committed to supporting Iraq by offering technical expertise, advice, and support to build on the nation’s achievements.
