Manama: The Ministry of Works held an introductory seminar on the Innovation in Irrigation Solutions Competition, in implementation of the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to encourage innovative approaches that enhance the efficient use of treated water in agriculture and landscaping. The competition aims to promote creative ideas that support Bahrain's sustainability efforts by improving the management of treated water, expanding irrigation networks, and protecting the environment, all in line with the Kingdom's comprehensive development goals, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
According to Bahrain News Agency, during the seminar, the ministry outlined the competition's objectives, participation process, and evaluation criteria, and responded to queries from potential participants ahead of the registration deadline on 6 November. The initiative is open to individuals, engineering firms, contractors, universities, research centres, and other institutions interested in contributing to more efficient and environmentally sustainable irrigation practices.
The ministry highlighted that the competition encourages innovative, practical solutions to maximise the use of treated water and improve irrigation efficiency across the Kingdom. It also supports Bahrain's broader drive to increase green spaces and enhance urban beautification through modern and sustainable methods.
Participants may choose between two categories: the first focuses on developing innovative irrigation systems for specific areas such as King Hamad Avenue, Bahrain Bay Avenue, and Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Avenue, while the second invites proposals for areas not yet connected to the treated water network, offering integrated and creative solutions.
Entries will be assessed based on cost-effectiveness, long-term sustainability, innovation, and design quality. The ministry affirmed that the competition seeks to foster community and institutional engagement in developing forward-thinking solutions that contribute to Bahrain's environmental goals and the preservation of its natural resources.
The session concluded with an open discussion on registration and participation requirements. The ministry called on interested individuals and organisations to submit their applications via the competition's dedicated online platform on the official website www.works.gov.bh.
