Manama: The Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, in collaboration with the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), conducted a workshop focused on public-private partnerships in implementing targeted financial sanctions. Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Al Harram, Assistant Chief of Public Security for Operations and Training and Secretary of the Committee for Countering Extremism, Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering, attended the event.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the workshop aimed to promote cooperation and the exchange of expertise between stakeholders in the public and private sectors. It emphasized best practices to ensure efficient and effective application of targeted financial sanctions while addressing related challenges.
The gathering brought together experts and specialists from member states, who provided comprehensive presentations on topics such as combating terrorism financing and proliferation financing. They discussed mechanisms for understanding, identifying, and assessing risks, as well as the international legal framework, including United Nations resolutions and recommendations from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
The workshop also explored mechanisms to enhance compliance and national coordination, reviewed operational and supervisory challenges, and identified means to address them. These discussions aimed to ensure effective implementation of targeted financial sanctions and support national efforts to combat money laundering, terrorism financing, and proliferation financing.
