Seoul: Two people have died and around 1,000 residents were evacuated as torrential rains pounded parts of central South Korea, including South Chungcheong Province, Gyeonggi Province, and the city of Osan. More heavy rain is expected in the coming days.
According to Bahrain News Agency, with the rain front shifting northward, disaster response authorities placed the Chungcheong provinces and the southern part of Gyeonggi Province under the second-highest alert level.
In Osan, located 52 kilometers south of Seoul, a retaining wall collapsed onto a moving vehicle, killing the driver. This incident was reported by the Yonhap News Agency.
In Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, a man was found in cardiac arrest inside a submerged vehicle early Thursday at around 3:59 a.m. He was taken to a nearby hospital but later died.
Authorities also reported two minor injuries related to the downpours in Seosan and Buyeo, both located in South Chungcheong Province.
