AFC President Receives Saudi Football Federation Chairman

Manama-Sept 285 (BNA) Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa received Saudi Football Federation Chairman Ahmed Eid.

He welcomed the Saudi official, stressing the pivotal role of Saudi football authorities in promoting football in Asia.

The two sides discussed key issues regarding the status of Asian football, including the Saudi bid to host the 2019 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup with the strong backing of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdulla bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

Four countries, including Saudi Arab, are in the fray vying to host the 2019 Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The winner will be announced on the sidelines of the upcoming AFC annual meeting, scheduled to be held next year.

Australia will host the 2015 edition of the AFC Cup, the first championship of its king under the chairman of Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa.

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) hosted a two-day workshop at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Representatives of nine countries failed to take part while officials representing Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iran attended.
