Accra:The National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) has approved the use of Wegovy (semaglutide) pills, an oral treatment for obesity, in Bahrain. This marks a significant step in the country’s healthcare system to provide patients with access to advanced treatment options while staying updated with the latest therapeutic advances.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the approval is part of NHRA's initiative to enhance the regulatory framework for pharmaceutical services. It aims to improve healthcare quality by providing modern treatments that adhere to the highest approved medical and regulatory standards.
With this approval, Wegovy pills became available in the Bahraini market in mid-September, making Bahrain the second country in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), following the UAE, and the fifth worldwide to offer this medication. The pills can be found in pharmacies and are intended for use under medical guidance to ensure patient safety and appropriateness based on individual health conditions.
The introduction of Wegovy in Bahrain is an important development in expanding treatment options for obesity and related health issues. It aligns with global advances in treating obesity and associated chronic diseases, thereby supporting community health through broader access to effective therapies.
