Istanbul: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, met Oleksandr Korniyenko, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held in Istanbul, the Republic of Trkiye. The Speaker highlighted the importance of maintaining parliamentary coordination and communication between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Ukraine, and strengthening existing ties and relations.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Speaker noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are facing Iranian violations and attacks targeting civilian facilities, infrastructure, residential areas, and energy sources. The Speaker also reviewed the emergency item submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates condemning the Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain, GCC countries, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He noted that the item was based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, sponsored by 136 countries, and United Nations Human Rights Council Resolution 38, adopted unanimously with the support of 115 countries, reflecting international condemnation and calling for the immediate cessation of such attacks and the protection of civilians, infrastructure, and freedom of navigation.
On his part, Korniyenko expressed hope for stability and security in the region and the end of the war, and reaffirmed Ukraine's keenness to strengthen relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain.
