Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, strongly condemned the Iranian attack targeting an ADNOC oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a flagrant violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, and a serious threat to maritime navigation and energy supplies.
According to Bahrain News Agency, in a cable to Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates, Al Musallam said the attack represents a dangerous escalation threatening regional security and stability, global energy security and freedom of international trade. He called for a firm international response to condemn the attack, hold those responsible accountable and prevent similar attacks.
The Speaker reiterated parliamentary support for the Kingdom of Bahrain's full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and its support for all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty, national security, vital facilities and national companies. He emphasised that the security of the UAE is an integral part of the security of Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Al Musallam also emphasised the Council of Representatives' commitment to strengthening coordination with the UAE Federal National Council in regional and international parliamentary forums in response to the Iranian actions.
