Speaker Chairs Inter-Parliamentary Group Executive Committee Meeting

Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, chaired the Executive Committee meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Group. The committee affirmed its support for parliamentary diplomacy in backing Bahrain’s non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term, and in advancing the Kingdom’s civilisational message.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the committee stated that this decision reflects the diplomatic approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. They expressed pride in the Kingdom officially assuming its non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for a two-year term, marking the second time in nearly three decades. This achievement underscores Bahrain’s high international standing and its active role in promoting international cooperation, humanitarian action, sustainable development, support for Arab causes, and efforts to strengthen security, peace, and stability in the region.

The committee also reviewed preparations for Bahrain’s hosting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) meeting scheduled for January. Additionally, they examined correspondence received from parliamentary unions regarding participation in upcoming meetings and conferences, as well as reports on parliamentary participations during the previous period.
