Shura Chairman Delivers Keynote Speech at Fifth AI Governance Conference

Manama: Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, delivered the keynote speech at the opening of the Fifth AI Governance Conference, held virtually with the participation of international AI experts and specialists, underscoring Bahrain's commitment to advancing the responsible use and governance of artificial intelligence (AI).

According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Saleh highlighted the Kingdom's progress in adopting emerging technologies in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the initiatives led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He said Bahrain has established a strong legislative and policy framework to support AI adoption, enhance innovation and reinforce the Kingdom's position as a regional leader in the knowledge economy.

The Chairman stated that the legislative authority has continued to develop laws that keep pace with rapid technological advances, creating an enabling environment that supports investment, innovation and the objectives of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

Al Saleh stressed that the accelerating pace of AI development requires closer international cooperation and broader scientific dialogue to exchange expertise, address emerging challenges, and maximise the benefits of AI while mitigating potential risks, particularly in strategic sectors such as the economy and investment.

The Chairman also emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts between the legislative and executive authorities, alongside civil society, to promote the responsible use of AI and ensure it contributes to sustainable development.

Al Saleh commended the organisers of the conference and praised the efforts of the Global AI Group and the Artificial Intelligence Society, led by Dr. Jassim Haji, in promoting AI knowledge, strengthening national capabilities, and supporting Bahrain's transition towards a knowledge-based economy.
