Geneva: Jamal Mohamed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, and MP Abdulnabi Salman, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, met with Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Foreign Affairs and National Security. The meeting took place during the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the session was also attended by Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations Office in Geneva, and Aliaksei Barbuk, First Counsellor at Belarus's Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva. Fakhro emphasized Bahrain's dedication to deepening diplomatic and economic relations with Belarus and enhancing parliamentary ties through bilateral visits and legislative cooperation.
Fakhro acknowledged the ongoing development of relations between Bahrain and Belarus, which are built on mutual trust, respect, and a commitment to shared interests. MP Salman highlighted the robust growth in relations, particularly in sectors like economic trade, aviation, and investment protection, and stressed the importance of further boosting parliamentary cooperation.
The discussions included ways to support legislative activities and share expertise in artificial intelligence. Fakhro noted that the legislature is focused on establishing legal frameworks for AI to ensure technological advancement aligns with community protection.
The Belarusian official expressed pride in the close to three-decade-long relationship with Bahrain and indicated Belarus's eagerness to enhance collaboration in social, cultural, tourism, educational, sports, and health fields.
