Manama: The Royal Medical Services (RMS) has launched the GEN 3 system by Hologic, the first of its kind in the Kingdom, to enhance the precision and efficiency of breast surgery through advanced medical technology.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the system uses Magseed technology to accurately locate non-palpable breast lesions before and during surgery, and Magtrace to help identify the sentinel lymph node. It also provides surgeons with real-time guidance through audio signals and precise digital readings.
Major General Dr. Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Commander of the RMS, said the launch reflects the Royal Medical Services' commitment to keeping pace with global advances in breast surgery and providing medical teams with advanced tools to improve patient care. Dr. Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa added that investment in modern medical technology is part of the Royal Medical Services' strategy to enhance clinical performance and provide healthcare to the highest standards.
For his part, Dr. Edward Rowland, CEO of the Bahrain Oncology Center, said the GEN 3 system is a significant addition to breast surgery, reducing reliance on traditional methods such as wires and radioactive materials. Dr. Noof Alshaibani, Head of the Women's Healthcare Center at the RMS and Consultant in General and Reconstructive Surgery at the Bahrain Oncology Center, said the system gives surgical teams greater precision and control when dealing with complex cases and helps improve surgical planning and patient outcomes.
