Doha: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar summoned the Deputy Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Qatar and delivered a protest note over the targeting of the Qatari tanker Al Rekayyat while it was transiting near the Strait of Hormuz, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Qatar strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a grave violation of the safety of international navigation, a direct threat to global energy security, and a clear breach of international law.
The protest note reiterated Qatar's rejection of the attack and demanded that Iran immediately cease any practices that undermine regional security or endanger international shipping and global energy supplies.
The note also stated that Qatar reserves all its rights under international law to take appropriate measures to protect its interests and assets. It called on Iran to provide an urgent explanation for the attack, take immediate steps to prevent its recurrence, and comply fully with the relevant rules of international law.
