Qatar Representative to UN Highlights Global Rejection of Iranian Aggression

New york: Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, affirmed that the United Nations Security Council's adoption of the resolution submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan regarding the Iranian attacks on the territories of these countries reflects broad international consensus in rejecting the unlawful and unjustified aggression by Iran.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Sheikha Alya stated that the adoption of the resolution resulted from intensive efforts over recent days by the Gulf states' missions to the United Nations in New York since the onset of the Iranian attacks. She noted that Resolution No. 2817 (2026) was adopted with 13 Council members voting in favor, without any objections, while China and Russia abstained.

She elaborated that 135 countries participated in adopting the draft resolution, including 13 members of the Security Council. The resolution strongly condemns the Iranian attacks on the territories of the GCC states and Jordan and states that these acts constitute a violation of international law and a serious threat to international peace and security.

Sheikha Alya emphasized that the resolution reaffirms strong support for the regional safety, sovereignty, and political independence of these countries and expresses solidarity with them and their peoples.

The resolution calls for the immediate cessation of all attacks carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran and demands that it immediately and unconditionally halt any provocation or threat against neighboring countries, including the use of proxies. Additionally, it condemns any Iranian acts or threats aimed at closing the Strait of Hormuz or disrupting international navigation there.
