Manama: The Public Prosecution participated in a workshop on developing the GCC Strategy to Combat Cybercrime and AI-Related Crimes, organised by the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Qatar, with the participation of experts and specialists in emerging technologies.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Kingdom of Bahrain was represented by Zahra Murad, Head of the Cybercrime Prosecution, who took part in the workshop's proceedings. This participation aligns with Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadhl Al Buainain's vision of adopting a proactive approach to address emerging forms of crime, particularly in the realm of cybercrime and artificial intelligence.
The workshop was attended by Brigadier General Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Assistant Secretary General for Security Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat; Hatem Fouad Ali, UNODC Regional Representative for the Gulf, as well as representatives of the GCC member states. Over the course of three days, the workshop focused on the use of modern technologies in combating crime and enhancing joint GCC coordination to confront emerging criminal patterns linked to artificial intelligence.
The Head of the Cybercrime Prosecution engaged in discussions on legislative aspects, presenting Bahrain's experience in evolving its legal and judicial framework to address technological advancements and cybercrime. She highlighted strategies for the swift apprehension of offenders, analyzing motives behind such crimes, and implementing proactive measures to prevent them.
Additionally, she emphasized the significance of harmonizing visions and legislation among GCC member states to create an integrated Gulf framework. This would aid in effectively identifying and addressing emerging digital challenges, contributing to a secure and sustainable digital environment in the region.
