Manama: Yasser Ghanem Shaheen, Secretary-General of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), recently met with Ishraq bin Al Zain, Coordinator of the Training and Education Unit at the United Nations Centre for Training and Documentation in Human Rights for Southwest Asia and the Arab Region.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the focus of their discussion was on enhancing the partnership between the NIHR and United Nations mechanisms, with a strong emphasis on training and human rights education. The Secretary-General stressed the importance of continuing to develop training programs that address new and emerging challenges in the field of human rights, which are vital for raising awareness and improving skills.
During the meeting, Ishraq bin Al Zain provided insights into the various initiatives of the centre, which include training, education, and documentation programs, as well as efforts in knowledge management related to human rights. The conversation also covered potential strategies to boost
future cooperation, including knowledge exchange and the organization of workshops. These initiatives aim to advance the human rights culture among different societal segments.
The meeting coincided with a training program hosted by the NIHR in partnership with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bahrain. This program was designed to educate journalists and media professionals about human rights standards and principles, reflecting the NIHR’s strategy to enhance human rights awareness and strengthen ties with stakeholders and defenders.
