NIHR reviews statement on inmate’s death

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) reviewed the statement issued by the General Directorate of Reform and Rehabilitation regarding the death of the inmate (H.A.B) at SMC, following infection with COVID-19.


The NIHR contacted the concerned authorities to find out the circumstances of the death and the measures that were taken, as it was found that the inmate was among the existing cases of the COVID-19,and he was vaccinated with two doses, on May 29 he was immediately transferred to SMC when tested COVID-19 positive, and he was receiving integrated health care and regularly receiving his medicines, but his health condition remained unstable, and accordingly the treating medical team decided to put him on a respirator, but he died as a result of complications from his infection with the virus.


The institute affirmed that Bahrain made its best to prevent the spread of the virus and mitigate its effects, and has provided full medical care to all citizens and residents, including all inmates and detainees.
