Moscow: The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by Dr. Malallah Al Hammadi, Vice Chairperson, and Rawdha Salman Al Aradi, Member of the Council of Commissioners, actively participated in the 10th Meeting of the Eurasian Alliance of Ombudsmen and National Human Rights Institutions (EOA) in Moscow. The event, held over two days, was under the patronage of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting commenced with an address by Professor Tatyana Moskalkova, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, who extended a welcome to the delegations in attendance.
During the 9th International Scientific and Practical Conference titled "Problems of Human Rights Protection: Exchange of Best Practices of Ombudsmen," Dr. Al Hammadi presented on "Protecting Human Rights in the Digital Era." He shared NIHR's initiatives in digital transformation, focusing on privacy rights and combating cyberbullying. He also discussed the institution's efforts in monitoring social media for human rights issues and fostering partnerships to enhance digital safety.
Al Aradi delivered a paper on "Exchange of Best Practices on Protecting the Rights of Residents in Remote and Rural Areas." She reviewed NIHR's actions to align national strategies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhance the protection of community rights. She emphasized Bahrain's inclusive human rights strategy for all residents.
Al Aradi also outlined NIHR's significant initiatives, such as field monitoring, report preparation, awareness campaigns, and cooperation with civil society. She highlighted the institution's commitment to multilingual communication and aligning national laws with international human rights standards.
The NIHR, an active member of the Eurasian Alliance, holds the distinction of being the first Arab institution to join. The Alliance serves as a vital platform for dialogue and cooperation between ombudsmen offices and national human rights institutions.
