NIHR Delegation Visits Dry Dock Detention Centre and Juvenile Facility

Al hidd: A delegation from the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) visited the Dry Dock Detention Centre and the juvenile-sentences building in Al Hidd. The purpose of the visit was to assess the living conditions and accommodations provided to detainees and to engage with several minors who are either awaiting trial or have been sentenced.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the delegation aimed to gather firsthand information by listening to the requests of the detainees and recording their observations. This initiative is a preparatory step towards issuing recommendations to the relevant authorities, aimed at improving the conditions within the detention facilities.

The visit is part of the NIHR's ongoing efforts to monitor and uphold the rights of detainees as per existing laws, regulations, and international human rights standards. This is in line with the extensive powers granted to the Institution by its founding law, emphasizing its role in ensuring that all individuals in rehabilitation and correction centres receive their entitled rights.
