Barcelona: Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of Municipalities Affairs at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, participated in the Smart City Expo World Congress, held in Barcelona from 4 to 6 November.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the event, organised by Fira de Barcelona, brought together government officials, municipal leaders, technology companies, and experts in fields such as infrastructure, transport, energy, and water. The congress also included contributions from academic and international institutions focused on digital transformation and sustainable urban development.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed highlighted that Bahrain's participation underscores its commitment to engaging with international partners and exploring opportunities that align with the Kingdom's vision for developing smarter and more sustainable cities. He emphasized that such global exchanges enhance Bahrain's position among nations leading innovative and future-ready urban planning.
This year's congress, themed 'The Time for Cities,' concentrated on the pivotal role of cities as engines of progress and resilience. The event addressed global challenges like urban expansion, climate change, and resource management, emphasizing the use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and big data.
