MoU Signed to Enhance Mental Health Support for Alternative Sentencing

Manama:Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director-General of the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, and Dr. Abdulkarim Awad, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Serene Psychiatry Hospital, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to bolster cooperation and leverage specialized mental health expertise.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the agreement aims to develop programs and initiatives for beneficiaries of alternative sentencing and the Open Prisons Programme. It reflects the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to promote a humanitarian approach and support societal reintegration opportunities.

Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid emphasized the role of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in implementing this vision through initiatives that enhance government efficiency and human development investment. He noted that General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, has significantly contributed to advancing the alternative sentencing system and expanding partnerships with specialized institutions.

The MoU highlights the importance of psychological support in enhancing beneficiaries' mental and social well-being. Cooperation with Serene Psychiatry Hospital will provide access to specialized expertise, improving service quality.

Dr. Awad expressed pride in collaborating with the General Directorate and affirmed the hospital's commitment to contributing its expertise and resources to joint programs, fulfilling the MoU's objectives.

This agreement is part of the General Directorate's efforts to expand cooperation with specialized institutions and utilize professional expertise to develop programs that aid beneficiary reintegration into society.
