Manama: The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) recently welcomed a delegation from the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), which included Dr. Mallallah Al Hammadi, Vice Chairperson and Member of the Board of Commissioners; Dr. Abdulla Al Thawadi, Board Member; and Muna Koro, Board Member.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the delegation was informed about the LMRA's initiatives to uphold a fair and stable work environment that protects the rights of all involved parties. Among the highlighted efforts was the development of the Wage Protection System, designed to facilitate electronic salary payments in the private sector, and the issuance of an international bank account number (IBAN) for expatriate workers in Bahrain.
During the visit, the delegation also received an overview of the procedures implemented by the Employers Services Directorate and the Expatriate Services Directorate, which cater to workers in both commercial and domestic sectors.
Additionally, the delegation visited the Expat Protection Centre, where they were briefed on the variety of services it offers. Notably, the centre is the first of its kind in the Middle East, offering preventive, advisory, and legal support, along with shelter for victims and potential victims of trafficking. The delegation also examined the functions of the Regional Centre of Excellence for Training and Capacity Building to Combat Trafficking in Persons.
