Manama: Legislative committees in Bahrain marked International Anti-Corruption Day by highlighting the country's continuous efforts to bolster integrity and transparency under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. These efforts are further supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Shura Council's Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, led by Khalid Hussain Al Musallam, underscored the government's comprehensive framework of legislation and oversight mechanisms aimed at reinforcing financial and administrative integrity. The committee acknowledged the role of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security in combating financial crimes, enforcing laws, and using modern technologies to detect violations while building institutional partnerships to safeguard public funds.
The Financial and Economic Affairs Committee in the Council of Representatives, chaired by MP Ahmed Sabah Al Salloum, noted that advanced legislation and effective oversight have increased institutional efficiency and accountability. It emphasized the parliament's efforts through legislative and oversight tools, in collaboration with the National Audit Office, to manage public resources efficiently, support financial stability, and promote sustainable development.
The Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee in the Council of Representatives highlighted Bahrain's measures and policies that align with its international standing and regional responsibilities. The committee stated that Bahrain's participation in the event showcases its awareness of the threat corruption poses to sustainable development, economic balance, financial stability, and global societal wellbeing.
The committees pointed to regional and international indicators showing Bahrain's progress in combating corruption, thus enhancing the investment environment and reflecting the Kingdom's commitment to good governance. They stressed the importance of promoting integrity, raising awareness, encouraging self-regulation, and ensuring coordinated efforts between legislative, executive, and community institutions.
The committees also emphasized the need for ongoing international cooperation, accession to relevant conventions, and unified frameworks to tackle evolving corruption forms in light of cross-border networks. They reiterated their support for national initiatives to consolidate transparency, protect national achievements, and advance comprehensive development, stability, and prosperity.
