Awali: Her Excellency Giorgia Meloni, President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic, visited the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia in Awali. HE Giorgia Meloni was accompanied by Her Excellency Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development, during an event organised by the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance. The event was attended by His Excellency Bishop Aldo Berardi, Apostolic Vicar of Northern Arabia, Muneera Nofal Al Doseri, Executive Director of the Center, and other religious and official figures.
According to Bahrain News Agency, during the visit, HE Giorgia Meloni expressed appreciation for the experience of the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in respecting freedom of religion and belief. She highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts in upholding the values of tolerance and coexistence, and its commitment to promoting a culture of peace and dialogue among civilizations, cultures, and religions.
HE Giorgia Meloni was informed about the significance of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia as a religious and civil landmark. The Cathedral represents the spirit of goodwill and tolerance, as well as the religious and cultural diversity in Bahrain, reflecting the social harmony among all components of society.
Muneera Al Doseri, Executive Director of the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance, provided a briefing on the Center’s role in advocating for the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and coexistence. She discussed the Center’s initiatives, projects, and academic and training programmes in collaboration with local and international religious, cultural, and parliamentary institutions. The briefing also covered the religious and community events organised by the Center to encourage interfaith and intercultural dialogue and foster human and cultural rapprochement.
