Manama: The Ministry of Interior announced the launch of a new electronic service, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, enabling Bahraini citizens abroad to replace their passports through the Kingdom of Bahrain's embassies and consulates via the national eGovernment portal, Bahrain.bh.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), stated that the service allows citizens outside the Kingdom to submit passport replacement applications electronically. He elaborated that the new passport is issued and the old one cancelled at a Bahraini embassy or consulate abroad, without the need to send the old passport for cancellation, thereby simplifying procedures and reducing time, effort, and cost.
He emphasized that the service is exclusively available to citizens abroad and that applications are processed directly through diplomatic missions, without the necessity of visiting service centres inside the Kingdom.
Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman further mentioned that the service is part of the ministry's efforts to expand digital services and enhance efficiency and flexibility in transaction processing. He noted that passport replacement procedures are completed within a maximum of seven working days.
He also highlighted that an agreement signed with DHL Express has contributed to providing a secure and reliable delivery service for passports and documents to citizens worldwide, supporting passport renewal and replacement services and significantly reducing processing times.
