Manama:The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Safaa W.L.L., a sustainability solutions company, to promote sustainable practices within Bahrain's industrial sector and improve the environmental performance of its industrial facilities.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the MoU was signed by Eman Ahmed Al Doseri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Talal Arif Al Oraifi, CEO of Safaa, in the presence of Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, the Industry and Commerce Minister. This took place during the inaugural Made in GCC Forum and Exhibition.
The agreement supports Bahrain's transition towards a green economy by enhancing the Green Factory Label initiative, which was launched in December 2023. This initiative aligns with the Industrial Sector Strategy (2022-2026) and aims for net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. It encourages factories to adopt environmentally responsible practices, improve operational efficiency, and utilise innovative technologies to advance the green economy and ESG practices.
The MoU outlines cooperation in managing greenhouse gas emissions, preparing emissions inventories, and organizing training on environmental sustainability. Safaa will provide technological solutions to measure and manage environmental indicators like carbon emissions and water consumption, aiding in the preparation of ESG reports and decarbonisation plans.
Minister Fakhro stated that the Ministry is committed to supporting industrial facilities in adopting sustainable practices to enhance efficiency and competitiveness. He emphasized that the MoU would help develop the Green Factory Label initiative and support factories in managing emissions and building capacity.
Safaa CEO Al Oraifi highlighted the company's commitment to national sustainability efforts, describing the partnership as pivotal in helping the industrial sector manage its environmental impact while enhancing operational efficiency and competitiveness. He affirmed Safaa's dedication to supporting Bahrain's environmental goals, including achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
