Manama: The Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) in Saudi Arabia to bolster joint cooperation and the sharing of expertise in data and artificial intelligence.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the MoU was signed by Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, iGA Chief Executive, and Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi, SDAIA President. The signing was witnessed by Latifa Mohammed Al Abbasi, Director of Innovation and Advanced Technologies at iGA, and Abdullah Al Khudairi, Chief Executive of the Strategy Management Office at SDAIA, along with officials from both sides.
Al Qaed stated that the MoU signifies the deep-rooted relations between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia and underscores their commitment to enhancing technical cooperation in data and AI. The agreement focuses on sharing expertise in advanced technologies, data governance, and AI-supporting infrastructure, including the development of Large Language Models (LLMs).
The cooperation also involves joint research projects, prototype development for innovative technologies, and implementation of specialized training programs. These initiatives aim to cultivate specialized competencies, optimize shared expertise, and build a sustainable ecosystem for data and AI.
Al Qaed highlighted that the MoU provides opportunities for broader cooperation, focusing on modern technologies and innovative solutions to address shared priorities. This collaboration includes mutual expertise sharing, joint projects, research promotion, and investment in developing national skills.
He further noted the rapid evolution of AI technologies and the significance of unified efforts to translate these advancements into practical solutions. This partnership aims to enhance government services, improve operational efficiency, support innovation, and promote responsible digital transformation.
Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi emphasized that the MoU reflects the strong bilateral relations and mutual efforts to expand cooperation in data and AI. He remarked that this agreement is a step towards strengthening expertise exchange, developing national capabilities, and supporting research and innovation, ultimately contributing to responsible AI use and digital transformation in both countries.
