Sakhir: The leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have wrapped up the 46th session of the GCC Supreme Council at Sakhir Palace, with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa presiding over the meeting. His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, was in attendance.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the closing session featured the delivery of the Sakhir Declaration by Jasem Mohammed Al Budaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC. The declaration emphasised the enduring ties between GCC states, rooted in shared faith, lineage, and language. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bonds and integration among member states, reflecting the GCC’s founding objectives.
The GCC leaders expressed satisfaction with achievements in joint GCC action, highlighting milestones in defense, security, and sustainable development. They reaffirmed their dedication to advancing cooperation across political, security, economic, and social domains, aiming for regional stability and prosperity.
The summit reiterated respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs, emphasizing collective security. The leaders supported peaceful resolutions to conflicts and welcomed outcomes of the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit. They endorsed efforts for a sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, promoting peace in the Middle East.
Economic development was a focal point, with leaders stressing the importance of completing the GCC Common Market and Customs Union. They underscored the significance of technological advancements, digital infrastructure, and economic diversification for sustainable development.
Environmental responsibility was highlighted, with a commitment to clean energy projects and aligning with global initiatives for net-zero emissions. The summit also focused on enhancing international cooperation, combating extremism, and safeguarding regional security.
The leaders pledged support to Bahrain as it represents the Arab Group in the United Nations Security Council, highlighting Bahrain’s role in promoting international peace and security. They appreciated the participation of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, agreeing on a strategic partnership with Italy.
In his closing speech, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa expressed gratitude to the leaders for their participation and underscored the positive outcomes of the summit. He thanked the Secretary General and the General Secretariat teams for their efforts.
The summit concluded with His Majesty bidding farewell to GCC leaders and representatives, who lauded his leadership and hospitality. The leaders emphasized their commitment to fostering GCC progress and cooperation for the benefit of member states and their peoples.
