Manama: His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, was present at the weightlifting competitions during the 3rd Asian Youth Games.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahraini athlete John Lopez secured two gold medals in the snatch and clean and jerk categories for the 94kg weight class. The competitions took place at the Exhibition World Bahrain, highlighting Bahrain's burgeoning prowess in regional sports.
His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad expressed appreciation for the achievements of Bahraini athletes throughout the Games. He emphasized that these performances reflect the ongoing development of national sports, supported by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Khalid voiced pride in Lopez's success, indicating that it contributes to Bahrain's expanding list of achievements and demonstrates the effectiveness of training and development initiatives by the Bahrain Olympic Committee and sports federations in preparing athletes for excellence at both continental and international competitions.
He extended his congratulations to the athlete and the national weightlifting team's coaching and administrative staff and wished all Bahraini athletes continued success in elevating the Kingdom's profile in Asian sports arenas.
His Highness also attended other competitions on the penultimate day of the Games, including jiu-jitsu, boxing, e-sports, and judo.
