Health Ministry Unveils Genome Guides Programme at Youth City 2030

Manama: The Ministry of Health launched the "Genome Guides" training programme, delivered by the National Genome Centre as part of the Science and Technology Centre's initiatives at the 14th edition of Youth City 2030. This innovative programme is designed to engage young people in the field of human genomics and its pivotal role in the future of healthcare through interactive training sessions and practical activities.According to Bahrain News Agency, Youth City 2030 is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs in collaboration with the Labour Fund (Tamkeen). Dr. Lulwa Rashid Showaiter, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health, emphasized that the programme seeks to enhance genomic literacy among the youth, providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate and contribute to the evolving landscape of healthcare.The "Genome Guides" programme encompasses a comprehensive curriculum, including the National Genome Project, fundamentals of genetics, and the application of artificial intelligen ce in genomic medicine. Additionally, it covers clinical genomics, gene therapy, precision medicine, and pharmacogenomics, highlighting their significance in personalised healthcare.Dr. Showaiter highlighted that the initiative is aligned with the Kingdom of Bahrain's broader strategy to cultivate national capabilities in advanced health sciences. It aims to prepare the younger generation for future opportunities in the rapidly advancing health and technology sectors, ultimately fostering a well-informed and skilled workforce ready to tackle upcoming challenges in these fields.
