Manama: Hala Ramzi Fayez, a member of Bahrain's Shura Council, participated in a workshop during the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva. The workshop, part of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development meetings, was titled "The effects of Global Warming: A parliamentary call to protect the most vulnerable."
According to Bahrain News Agency, Fayez highlighted Bahrain's comprehensive national approach to tackling climate change through strategies and initiatives aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. She noted that Bahrain views global warming as a challenge with economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
Fayez stated that protecting vulnerable groups from the impacts of climate change is a national and parliamentary priority to ensure climate justice and sustainable development. She reviewed Bahrain's main initiatives, including the National Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2060, the Coastal Protection Programme, support programs for low-income groups, and national capacity-building projects to address environmental risks.
She also emphasized the parliament's role in supporting laws and policies that promote social justice and sustainability. Fayez called for stronger international cooperation and the exchange of experiences to develop effective and innovative climate solutions.
