GCC Secretary General and UNCTAD Acting Secretary General Convene in Geneva

Geneva: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met Pedro Manuel Moreno, Acting Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in Geneva. The meeting focused on strengthening the cooperation between the GCC and UNCTAD, particularly in the areas of trade and economic development.

According to Bahrain News Agency, discussions included joint GCC customs efforts aimed at enhancing economic integration among the GCC states. Albudaiwi highlighted future economic initiatives planned by the GCC to further solidify this integration. Moreno praised the efforts made by GCC states in securing and enhancing supply chains amidst the ongoing regional challenges.

Both parties explored the possibility of organizing workshops on customs matters, sharing expertise, and holding training courses related to trade and the blue economy. They also considered organizing joint events to further this cooperation. Additionally, the meeting reviewed recent regional and international developments, focusing on their impact on economic and trade sectors. Special attention was given to issues such as the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the challenges facing supply chains.
