Manama: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), strongly condemned the Houthi militia's terrorist attempt to target the Holy City of Makkah with a drone. Albudaiwi said the attack represented an extremely dangerous escalation, crossed all lines and boundaries, and constituted a blatant violation of the sanctity of the holiest place on earth and the Qibla of Muslims.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Albudaiwi stressed that such attacks on Makkah once again reveal an extremist approach that shows no regard for the sanctity of holy sites or the safety of civilians, requiring a firm and deterrent international stance to put an end to these violations and hold those responsible accountable.
The Secretary General said that any threat to Makkah, its sanctity, and its security was not an attack on Saudi Arabia alone, but an extremely dangerous provocation to the feelings of Muslims around the world. He stressed that targeting holy sites represented a dangerous level of escalation that could not be tolerated.
Albudaiwi said the GCC member states stand united alongside Saudi Arabia and that the security of the Kingdom and its holy sites is an integral part of the security of the GCC states. He expressed the GCC's full support for all measures taken by Saudi Arabia to safeguard its sovereignty and protect its territory, holy sites, citizens, and residents, and to deter any attempt to undermine its security and stability.
