Jassim mohammed al budaiwi:assim Mohammed Al Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), expressed strong condemnation of the United Nations Security Council's failure to adopt a draft resolution aimed at immediately halting threats targeting freedom of navigation and the security of global trade in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Budaiwi affirmed that the failure to pass the resolution directly contributes to encouraging Iranian attacks against freedom of navigation and the safety of vessels, describing it as a clear violation of international law and a serious threat to global economic stability.
The GCC Secretary General underscored that the Strait of Hormuz must remain an open and secure international waterway, free from any threats or restrictions, noting that any attempts to impose a fait accompli by force or use it as a tool for political pressure are unacceptable and condemned at both regional and international levels.
He also expressed appreciation for the Kingdom of Bahrain's efforts at the UN Security Council and its diplomatic efforts in presenting the draft resolution to address these threats. He commended the support of all GCC and international countries for these efforts, including most Security Council members.
Al Budaiwi affirmed that GCC states will continue to coordinate their positions and actions in a collective and firm manner to support international efforts aimed at securing the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring freedom of navigation, with the aim of restoring global economic stability and safeguarding the interests of peoples in the region and the world who depend on this international waterway.
