GCC governments’ human rights agencies hold first coordination meeting

The Chief of Human Rights Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Arwa Hassan Al Sayed chaired the first coordination meeting of Heads of human rights agencies of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The heads of government agencies concerned with human rights in the GCC countries and the GCC General Secretariat participated in the meeting held in Kuwait on August 11-12.

The opening session was attended by Kuwait’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Majdi Al Dhafiri who stressed the importance of such meetings to boost coordination and enhance cooperation.

Topics discussed at the sessions focused on the special strategy prepared by the General Secretariat in cooperation with the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research and the external action plan prepared by the GCC mission to Geneva in addition to coordination and reinforcement of exchange of experiences and joint efforts.

The meeting agreed on several human rights recommendations that will cement GCC coordination in this regard.
