Paris: French government spokesperson Sophie Prima warned that US President Donald Trump’s proposals on controlling Gaza and displacing its residents threaten regional stability and the peace process. Following a cabinet meeting, Prima reaffirmed France’s firm opposition to any forced displacement of Palestinians, advocating a ceasefire leading to a two-state solution.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the French Foreign Ministry emphasised that Gaza’s future should be within an independent Palestinian state under the Palestinian Authority, not a third state’s control. It warned that forced displacement would violate international law and hinder the two-state solution while destabilising Egypt and Jordan.
France also reiterated its opposition to settlement expansion and unilateral annexation of the West Bank. These remarks came after Trump announced plans to ‘control’ Gaza and relocate its residents during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
