Foreign Minister Meets UN Secretary General on Middle East Developments

New York: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations. The two sides discussed cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations and its affiliated agencies across various sectors. According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting focused on strengthening relations in areas of common interest and exchanging views on the latest developments in the Middle East. Discussions included the situation in the Gaza Strip and the regional and international efforts aimed at maintaining the ceasefire, protecting civilians, securing the release of hostages and detainees, and reducing tensions and escalation. The difficult humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip was also a key topic, highlighting the humanitarian role undertaken by the United Nations and its various agencies to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population. The role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refug ees in the Near East (UNRWA) was discussed in this context. Additionally, the meeting addressed the Kingdom of Bahrain's preparations to run for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term. The priorities that the Kingdom will focus on during its membership were outlined, aligning with the Council's responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, and the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.
