Manama: The initial meeting of the Joint Steering Committee between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations for the current year took place. It was led by Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director-General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and attended by Khaled El Mekwad, UN Resident Coordinator in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Representatives from various government ministries, authorities, national institutions, and the United Nations Country Team were also present.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Bahrain, the Director-General of Bilateral Relations underscored Bahrain's commitment to enhancing cooperation with the United Nations by implementing the Strategic Partnership Framework for 2025-2029. This commitment aims to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and support Bahrain's comprehensive development, guided by the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The meeting also evaluated the outcomes of the consultative workshops held for the joint outcome groups that included government entities and the United Nations Country Team. These workshops were hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June. Additionally, the meeting reviewed the latest developments in cooperation between the two parties and discussed strategies to advance the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Framework.
At the end of the meeting, the Director-General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received the 2025 Annual Report of the United Nations Country Team from the UN Resident Coordinator in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
