Manama: Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education, chaired the 10th Meeting of Their Excellencies the Ministers of Education from GCC member states. This meeting, held in Manama, marked a significant event under Bahrain's presidency of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
According to Bahrain News Agency, the gathering was attended by GCC education ministers and Khalid bin Ali bin Salem Al Sunaidi, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Development Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat. Dr. Juma conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, wishing the meeting success in achieving its objectives and aligning with the aspirations of GCC leaders.
Dr. Juma stressed the need for continued collaboration and exchange of expertise among GCC countries in the education sector. He underscored the importance of integrating modern technologies, artificial intelligence, and developing innovative education systems to enhance the quality of education and prepare students for future challenges.
Al Sunaidi highlighted education as a crucial area for GCC integration, given its role in human capital development, identity reinforcement, skill development, and boosting competitiveness and innovation. He noted that the GCC education systems cater to approximately 10.9 million students, employ over 940,000 teachers, and encompass around 44,500 educational institutions.
The meeting featured a consultative session where ministers shared perspectives and coordinated on key issues, challenges, and opportunities facing GCC education systems, aiming to bolster cooperation and integration. Discussions also covered the follow-up on decisions and recommendations from the ninth meeting, focusing on enhancing joint GCC educational efforts.
The meeting concluded with recommendations and decisions to support GCC education policies, adapt to digital age and artificial intelligence requirements, and strengthen integration in educational programs. Emphasis was placed on enhancing the role of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS), continuing work on the joint GCC education strategy for 2026-2030, and advancing technical education and vocational training.
