Manama, Deputy Premier Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa stressed the importance of Government’s investment in cultural and tourism infrastructure in Muharraq.
“Well-planned investment has restored the historic standing of the Muharraq and turned the iconic Pearl Trail into a tangible reality”, he said, stressing the importance of the cultural project, which is expected to be complete by next year.
The Pearl Trail, he said, is supported by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa A-Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.
The Deputy Premier made the statement as he visits a number of development and investment projects in the old city of Muharraq, at the invitation of Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) President Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa.
Accompanied by ministers and members of the Ministerial Committee for Development and Investment Projects, the Deputy Premier also visited landmark monuments and sites.
He commended BACA-led efforts to reveal Bahraini identity though projects, stressing the Government’s vision which aims at increasing destinations and providing more choices for tourists and visitors.
He lauded the initiatives which are supported by the private sector which reflect keenness on valuing archaeological sites and protecting Bahrain’s longstanding heritage. He commended strenuous efforts which paid off, including the Pearl Trail, which became the second site, after Bahrain Fort, to enter the UNESCO list of Heritage Sites.
(BACA) President Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa thanked Deputy Premier Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa and members of the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure projects for their keenness on support the cultural and investment projects and the Pearl Trail in old Muharraq City.
She presented Deputy Premier Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa with A copy of the Koran with a luxurious cover engraved with Islamic motifs and calligraphy. Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) printed the copy as part of festivities marking Muharraq Capital of Islamic Culture 2018.
