China to Send Special Representative to Mediate Ukraine Crisis

China will send a special representative of the Chinese government on Eurasian affairs to visit Ukraine and other countries to conduct talks with all parties on the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday.

He added, during a call with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, that talks and negotiations are the only viable way out of the Ukrainian crisis, adding that no one wins a nuclear war.

The Chinese president stressed that his country will not exploit the crisis to achieve gain, stressing that Beijing will support peace through talks.

In turn, the Ukrainian president hailed the conversation with Jinping as long and meaningful. He added on Twitter that the appointment of a Ukrainian ambassador to China, will give a strong impetus to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Russian Foreign Ministry ruled out that Ukraine would be able to adequately respond to Chinese call for peace.
