Manama: Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director-General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chaired the first meeting of the Joint Steering Committee between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations for the current year. The meeting was attended by Khaled El Mekwad, UN Resident Coordinator in the Kingdom of Bahrain, along with representatives from various government ministries, authorities, national institutions, and the United Nations Country Team.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali emphasized Bahrain's commitment to enhancing cooperation with the United Nations through the Strategic Partnership Framework for 2025-2029. He noted the framework's role in accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and supporting Bahrain's comprehensive development process, guided by the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and directives from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The meeting assessed the outcomes of consultative workshops conducted for the joint outcome groups, which included government entities and the United Nations Country Team. These workshops were hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June.
Further discussions at the meeting focused on reviewing the latest developments in cooperation between Bahrain and the United Nations and exploring ways to advance the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Framework. Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali also received the 2025 Annual Report of the United Nations Country Team from the UN Resident Coordinator.
