Manama: The Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) participated in the inaugural International Space Summit as part of a high-level Bahraini delegation led by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The participation underscores Bahrain's commitment to enhancing its international presence in the space sector and engaging in global discussions on space's future and challenges, aligning with its national goals to establish itself as a regional hub for space science and technology.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Mohammed Ebrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of the BSA, highlighted that the summit, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) alongside the governments of France and Germany, is unprecedented at the international level. It aims to foster an inclusive dialogue among stakeholders in the space sector to address current challenges. The summit convenes representatives from at least 96 countries, including heads of state, ministers, and leaders from space agencies, private sectors, and development finance institutions.
Dr. Al Aseeri stated that the summit's discussions focus on strategic themes such as enhancing space sovereignty, developing satellite systems, and addressing challenges related to spectrum management and orbital congestion. The summit also emphasizes enhancing security in space through legal frameworks, supporting scientific research in space science, and encouraging investment in the space sector through public-private partnerships.
He affirmed that Bahrain's participation in this forum is part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in the space sector, following the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the continuous oversight of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The engagement reflects the strategic importance of the space sector for Bahrain.
Dr. Al Aseeri further noted that Bahrain's involvement in the international summit sends a message of determination to advance its space program under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. It also demonstrates the capability of Bahraini youth to lead in this strategic sector.
