Bahrain Hosts GCC Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee Meeting

Manama:Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, chaired the 31st Meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The meeting was attended by Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Minister Humaidan emphasized Bahrain's dedication, guided by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to enhancing cooperation within the GCC's electricity and water sectors. This commitment is aimed at ensuring the security and sustainability of supplies to meet the development needs of the GCC countries.

During the meeting, Minister Humaidan noted the significant progress made in electricity and water cooperation, reflecting a high level of coordination among GCC countries. He stressed the importance of building on these achievements by developing regulatory, technical, and economic frameworks to enhance the efficiency of electricity and water systems, preparing them for future challenges.

The ministers addressed several agenda items, including the implementation of decisions by the GCC Supreme Council on electricity and water. They also focused on strengthening the electricity interconnection among GCC countries.

The discussions also included developing a more effective framework for energy exchanges during exceptional circumstances to improve readiness and coordination among member states. In the water sector, the meeting reviewed the latest developments in GCC cooperation, including potential water interconnection projects between GCC countries and progress on bilateral projects. The meeting also followed up on the work of committees responsible for water resources, with an aim to bolster water security, improve resource management, and ensure sustainable supplies across the GCC.
