Geneva: Hala Ramzi Fayez, a member of the Shura Council and Bahrain's parliamentary delegation, recently took part in an interfaith dialogue workshop during the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva. Fayez emphasized Bahrain's commitment to community stability and its efforts against hatred and extremism through the promotion of equal citizenship and respect for religious and cultural diversity.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Fayez underscored Bahrain's international recognition following the UN's designation of January 28 as the International Day of Coexistence and Tolerance. This acknowledgment highlights Bahrain's significant role in fostering moderation on a global scale.
During the workshop, Fayez appealed to parliamentarians to advocate for laws that oppose discrimination and to champion religious and intellectual freedoms. She stressed the importance of institutionalizing interfaith dialogue through supportive legislation, education, and media policies. Furthermore, she encouraged the IPU to serve as a global platform to combat hate speech and promote accurate religious knowledge, particularly among the youth.
Fayez concluded by stating that Bahrain's approach to coexistence and tolerance is a strategic choice, offering a global model of how interfaith dialogue can contribute to a safer, fairer, and more inclusive future.
